Mayflower Gulch

Mayflower Gulch; splitboarding; colorado

Our fragile snowpack in Colorado this year has left us searching out fresh turns on some low angle slopes. Plenty of fresh snow is to be had for those who hunt it out. In my search, using Google Earth with a topo layover, I stumbled across an amazing backcountry spot. Less than 2 miles in and this place is beautiful. Mayflower Gulch is located between Copper Mtn resort and Leadville near the south end of the 10 mile range.

Some of the routes that I planned using Google Earth. It is possible to find the slope by designing your route pin drop to pin drop, zoom in and be specific looking at a topographical map as you go. You can plan runs through trees with decent accuracy. Once you have the route charted use "show elevation profile" this will give you the slope. You need the degrees to get any useful safety information. I use an online converter HERE

We have been going to this location several times this season and each time is an adventure. There are many good tree runs, and if conditions are ideal you can get into some really fun lines.

On the road Washington; Hoh Rainforest

Backpacking in the Hoh rainforest. Very beautiful place with glacial rivers, lots of wildlife, and vivid greens in every direction. The best part was the berries along the trail, we didn't even have to carry snacks. We hiked up to Elk Lake elevation 2670'
